A great way to see a place is to visit local markets, whether they are supermarkets, corner convenience stores, street markets or farmer’s markets.

Learn to speak at least a few words of the local language and be willing to converse with students of your own. Smile and be willing to interact.
Keep your wits about you
Keep your wits about you when you travel. This includes thinking to grab a picture of the ATM that eats your debit card, places you need to find again, and the registration of taxi drivers.
Jet lag
Since you can’t beat jet lag, plan for it. Enjoy the sunrises, give yourself a few extra days and/or plan to take it easy while you adjust to the new time zone.
