Road to the Top of Taishan

This gallery is from a trip that my son and I took to Taishan, a.k.a, Mount Tai or Mount Taishan (redundant since “shan” means mountain, but that is how it is listed on the U.N. World Heritage web site). This is an important mountain for the Chinese, although not well known by “western” tourists.

If you want to go be careful to make clear that you want to go to Taishan in Shandong Province, as there is more than one. The most widely used routes up start in the city of Tai’an. We traveled there from Weifang, Shandong Province. The trip was planned at the last minute and we bought our tickets late, (we had to wait while the lady at the ticket counter went off for her break). The only “seats” left were hard sleeper berths. I did a series of posts about this adventure on my personal blog: Sleeping Dragon Slowly Opens One Eye.
