Painterly depictions of a Pink Perfection Camellia.
Whatsoever is Lovely 2022-week 4
Hints of spring are starting to peek out among the detritus of fall and winter.
For the Whatsoever is Lovely blog challenge, and Cee’s Flower of the Day.
I used Raw Therapee for basic edits and raw conversion, Topaz Studio 2 to apply a painterly effect, and the GIMP to resize and add a vignette and watermark. I used the worflow described in: Photo processing workflow: preparing photos to use on the web using open-source software.
Clematis Seedhead with Raindrops
Close-up of a clematis seedhead with raindrops from a winter walk.
Whatsoever is Lovely 2022-week 2
This cherry tree can’t wait for spring. The delicate pink blooms are a bit battered by raindrops. I hope the next blast of winter isn’t too hard on the tree.
I used Raw Therapee and the GIMP to process these images.

Whatsoever is Lovely 2022-week 1
My variegated amaryllis has been a lovely thing in my life this week, actually throughout the entire holiday season.
I added a painterly effect to the above images in Topaz Studio 2.

Winter light
As the year winds down, our area is often rather gloomy. Some people call it “the big dark”, which sounds more dramatic than it is. I think of it as “winter light”. When the weak winter sun manages to drift through the clouds the low angle of the winter sunlight creates beauty in the mundane. Yesterday was such a day. Alas, today it is raining again and will likely be a dark one, but…photograph ye roses while ye may…
For Cee’s Flower of the Day and Len’s Artists Photo Challenge: You choose.
How does the winter light strike you?
