Join the One-to-Three Photo Processing Challenge to have some creative fun with photos.
The purpose of the One-to-Three Photo Processing Challenge is to play. These days we have so many different ways to process a photo: from phone apps to Photoshop. And these different software options make it accessible for anyone to get fun and beautiful effects. Whether you have a lot of time or a little.
I’ve been spending a lot of my pandemic playing with photo processing. Because it is a relaxing indoor activity that I can do for free (I mostly use open-source programs and old versions of paid programs). And I thought it might be fun to share what I’ve been doing and see what other folks are trying out.
No complicated rules, just:
- Pick a photo you want to play with.
- Process it using three different methods.
- After that create a blog post with the original and your creative products. Alternatively, if it is easier for you, you could post a gallery on Instagram with #tsc_1to3.
- If you can, please include a description of your methods. So others can give them a whirl.
- Then add a comment below containing the link to your post (pingbacks don’t work). So we can all see your creations.
- Check out what other folks are doing for new ideas.
I can hardly wait to see what you create.

Here’s my one-to-three contribution for this month:
Directions for my methods:
I found a new filter in G’mic. I think it was added in the most recent update. The “Paint with brush” filter has many settings and I started by looking at some of the presets. If you are interested I am using this same filter on two other photos for this month’s one-to-three, a landscape on my XingfuMama blog and a camellia, yes, it is also a flower also, but it is a smooth photo with less detail, on Instagram.
The filter is in G’mic’s Artistic set of filters. Filters>G’MIC-Qt then select Artistic and select Paint with brush. For information about the GIMP and G’mic check out my GIMP Articles and Tutorials page.
Thank you for linking to my post. I like the dreamy look best here, but I actually find them all quite similar – there’s not as much differentiation between the effects as with some other edits perhaps?
Very subtle changes there. But then, the photo needs little if any enhancement (I think I like the original best).
Here is my photo-edited effort for this month: https://picturesimperfectblog.wordpress.com/2022/05/02/the-promise-of-things-to-come/
Sometimes that’s how it is. I wanted to see how this filter worked with a finely detailed picture.

I love how you’ve processed this image…I’m drawn towards the paint-effect one and the dreamy image… swaying more to the dreamy image. Here is my contribution to the challenge… (which I’ve just found thankfully)

Love the dreamy preset.
Dreamy indeed!
Thank you.
