Red tulips in a blue vase
A Dutch moment: when a chance sunbeam lit up my red Apeldoorn tulips in a Delft tulip vase.
The tulip vase was invented during “tulipmania“, the big Dutch tulip bubble back in the 1600s. It was designed to show off the elegant, costly blooms. I got this tulip vase at Schiphol airport, when I spent a few days in Amsterdam en route to Kenya. Normally I avoid airport shops. But when they charged me for my luggage erroneously then gave me a cash refund I picked up a couple of these, one for me and one for Grandma. I did check first and they were made in the Netherlands (it’s always a risk that kitschy things are made far away and imported). It does a good job of giving me a half-orb of blooms.

I used Raw Therapee for raw conversion and basic edits, gave it a painterly treatment in Topaz Studio 2 then followed with the GIMP for resizing and watermark. I used the workflow described in: Photo processing workflow: preparing photos to use on the web using open-source software.
Oh what lovely tulips. I’ve seen vases like that. They ares so cool and lovely. 😀
