There’s something about daffodils. Incorrigible cheerfulness? No matter how gray and blustery the day is they always make me feel just a little bit happier.
I’ve also been doing some experimentation with black and white (again). I often find that switching to black and white brings out an aspect of a photo that you don’t notice so much in color. In this case I think the raindrops and the texture of the center of the flower stand out a bit more.

I used a combination of GIMP’s built in tools to get the above effect. A color to gray layered on top of a desaturate with the multiply blend mode. I have a post about using the GIMP for Black and White here.
I used Raw Therapee for raw conversion and basic edits, added a tiny bit of radiance to the snow in Topaz Studio 2, then used the GIMP to crop, resize and add a watermark. I used the workflow described in: Photo processing workflow: preparing photos to use on the web using open-source software.
