A sunny day on the beach at Fern Cove on Vashon Island with my pups (they are geriatrics actually) yesterday was a treat. And I think there is starting to be just a hint of green in the woods.
The girls had a really good time running on the beach. They acted like dogs half their years…so much for their baths.

Fern Cove Nature Preserve is an estuary. It is near my Dad’s house, which was his parents house. It is amazing to me how much the area has changed in my lifetime with silt from the creek. Every winter the high tides and storms reshape the beach. It’s not a loungers on the beach sort of place, but there are a lot of shore birds, including Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagles (I keep Asta close) and Osprey, which you can often see fishing.
I used Raw Therapee for raw conversion and basic edits, added a tiny bit of radiance to the snow in Topaz Studio 2, then used the GIMP to crop, resize and add a watermark. I used the workflow described in: Photo processing workflow: preparing photos to use on the web using open-source software.
