The old fashioned look of a grainy grayscale suits this heirloom rose.
If I have a muse these days it is this wonderful rose that my sister gave me a little over a year ago. It started blooming after just a month in the ground. Although it’s vibrant, when converted to black and white its lovely form really stands out.
This image was converted to black and white using the Color-to-gray filter in the GIMP, Colors>Desaturate>Color to gray, using the default settings for radius, samples, and iterations. I describe this tool in this Post: Black and white digital photo processing using the GIMP. The header uses the simple desaturation filter.
