Join the One-to-Three Photo Processing Challenge to have some creative fun with photos.
The purpose of the One-to-Three Photo Processing Challenge is to play. These days we have so many different ways to process a photo: from phone apps to Photoshop. And these different software options make it accessible for anyone to get fun and beautiful effects. Whether you have a lot of time or a little.
I’ve been spending a lot of my pandemic playing with photo processing. Because it is a relaxing indoor activity that I can do for free (I mostly use open-source programs and old versions of paid programs). And I thought it might be fun to share what I’ve been doing and see what other folks are trying out.
No complicated rules, just:
- Pick a photo you want to play with.
- Process it using three different methods.
- After that create a blog post with the original and your creative products.
- If you can, please include a description of your methods. So others can give them a whirl.
- Then add a comment below containing the link to you post (pingbacks don’t seem to work, I’m trying to figure out why). So we can all see your creations.
- Check out what other folks are doing for new ideas.
I can hardly wait to see what you create.

Here’s my contribution for this month:
Directions for my methods:
- The black and white uses GIMP’s built-in desaturation tool Colors>Desaturate>Desaturate. I used the Luma method. Then I added a vignette.
- This uses the method in the post: Faking it: a lensball effect using the GIMP.
- For this one I used the swirl method described in the post: Giving a photo a twirled effect using the GIMP. Then I overlaid a copy of the original image on the twirled using the soft light blend method.
I used the GIMP, an open-source (free) program comparable to Adobe’s Photoshop. If you are interested in trying the GIMP, check out my post: Get going with the GIMP.
The lens ball. Love it! 🙂 https://talesfrommylens.net/2021/07/01/one-to-three-4/
The lensball effect is so realistic, & the swirled one is mesmerizing 😃 Here’s mine: https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2021/07/02/silhouetted-at-dawn-treesquare/
Hi 🙂 I also love the lens ball! I edited a tree, that to me looks like it has the all seeing eye on its bark 💚
