Join the One-to-Three Photo Processing Challenge to have some creative fun with photos.
The purpose of the One-to-Three Photo Processing Challenge is to play. These days we have so many different ways to process a photo: from phone apps to Photoshop. And these different software options make it accessible for anyone to get fun and beautiful effects. Whether you have a lot of time or a little.
I’ve been spending a lot of my pandemic playing with photo processing. Because it is a relaxing indoor activity that I can do for free (I mostly use open-source programs and old versions of paid programs). And I thought it might be fun to share what I’ve been doing and see what other folks are trying out.
No complicated rules, just:
- Pick a photo you want to play with.
- Process it using three different methods.
- After that create a blog post with the original and your creative products.
- If you can, please include a description of your methods. So others can give them a whirl.
- Then add a comment below containing the link to you post (pingbacks don’t seem to work, I’m trying to figure out why). So we can all see your creations.
- Check out what other folks are doing for new ideas.
I can hardly wait to see what you create.
March creations:
Here’s my contribution for this month:
Directions for my methods:
- The black and white uses GIMP’s built-in desaturation: Colors>Desaturate>Desaturate plus a vignette.
- I used the directions for the Orton Effect in this post. Then I layered the Orton effect over the original using a soft light blend mode and added a vignette.
- For this one I combined the two preceding effects: I layered the Orton effect over the black and white using the soft light blend mode.
I added the same vignette to all three of them in the GIMP before exporting.
I used the GIMP, an open-source (free) program comparable to Adobe’s Photoshop. If you are interested in trying the GIMP, check out my post: Get going with the GIMP. I have also created a post with a run down of the Black and White tools available in the GIMP: Black and White Digital Photo Processing Part 3: Using the GIMP.
The original is so pretty with the yellows and all the other edits are very nice. I must try the GIMP software and the way you did the Orton effect is really creative. Here is my contribution for this month:

A great set of takes on an artichoke from Aleta at Now at Home Blog: https://nowathome.wordpress.com/2021/04/03/one-to-three-photo-processing-challenge-april-2021/.
The orton effect like best.
That’s what I came up with: https://geriatrixfotogallerie.wordpress.com/2021/04/12/one-two-three/
Difficult to pick a favourite – I quite like the b&w with Orton effect, sort of desaturated.
I picked flowers for April, too: https://picturesimperfectblog.wordpress.com/2021/04/12/star-magnolias/

Whilst the Orton effect really makes the colours pop, love the colder feel with the black & white added 😃 Here’s mine: https://jezbraithwaite.blog/2021/04/13/winter-brightness-brightsquares-apr-13-and-one-to-three-photo-processing/
