Ornamental plum blossom: the spirit of almost spring.

Our neighborhood has several of these double ornamental plum blossoms.

The ornamental plum blossom starts blooming in February. I think of this as “almost spring”. A time when there is a bit more light but it can still be pretty wintery at times. Witness yesterday when I took this photo in the morning and it was gray and raining by early afternoon.

It is hard to resist taking photos of these beauties, especially on sunny spring days. They bloom just as winter is starting to yield to warmer weather. With their delicate colors and soft shapes the lovely ornamental plum blossom suits the seasonal in-between time. More so than the brash yellow daffodils that are also starting to bloom.

Photographed with my Sony RX10M4 camera, F4.0, ISO 100, 1/320s, 8.8mm focal length (24mm 35 mil equivalent). I used Raw Therapee and the GIMP to process the image. To learn a bit more about using those programs check out my Photo processing tools on my belt page.
