Fishing in the Mihe River in Shouguang China

Bench beside the Mihe River faces a raft where a man sits fishing on a peaceful moring in Shouguang, Shandong Province, China.

Every morning when I walked out I saw many people fishing in the Mihe River in Shouguang China. A Chinese friend explained to me that they were “fish people”. That is likely a gender neutral translation of the word “fishermen”. Mostly they sit on geezer stools (a name my son and I made up because of the prevalence of older men sitting on them playing chess, cards, etc.), but one guy has a fancy folding chair.
Like many places, you wonder how much it is about catching fish (I never did see anyone catch anything) and how much just being outside enjoying a lovely morning.

Fishing in the Mihe River is a popular pass time in the city of Shouguang, Weifang Prefecture, Shandong Province.

  1. That was a lovely post! Beautiful photos that feel so tranquil. I enjoyed reading about the past time. And a nice thought on fishing vs relaxing. I’m leaning toward the latter. Love the name of your blog! Thank you!
